Every Aithor.io tool for academic writing and study

Aithor.io brings AI tools for academic writing with real sources, finding research papers and studying from your own material together in one account. Works in the browser on a computer or phone, at dashboard.aithor.io: nothing to install. The free plan is a trial: its quotas do not renew, and each tool’s page sets out what you get for free and what Aithor Pro adds.

  • AI with real citations

Aithor.io drafts your academic paper with you and only cites works that exist: it finds them in OpenAlex and Crossref and formats them in the style your course asks for. Every citation can be checked, because no AI gets them all right. Free: 3-day trial with 40 messages a day and about 250 words written by the guide per paper, no download; anything beyond that is cut off.

Which tool to use for what

If you know what you have to hand in, this table tells you where to start. Each tool has its own page with the steps, an example and what the free plan covers.

Writing

Guided writing is the core of Aithor.io. You give it your assignment brief or rubric, it suggests a title and an outline, and it drafts the paper with you section by section while you decide what goes into the document. If you have already started, you don’t lose that work. Imports your draft without rewriting it and carries on from where you left off.

Citations come from scholarly works that exist, and the paper is formatted in the style you need: 10,851 citation styles (APA 7, MLA, Chicago, Harvard, IEEE, Vancouver, AMA, ABNT…). There are pages for specific parts of a paper, such as the introduction, the conclusion, the theoretical framework or the abstract, and one for getting a whole paper into APA format. If you are an undergraduate with several assignments due at once, AI for college students walks through how the tools fit together.

Checking and showing your work

Drafting is only half the job. The other half is being able to stand behind what you submit, and two features inside Guided writing are built for that:

  • Check against the source. With Aithor Pro, Check against the source gives the exact sentence and page for each citation, only for articles with an open-access PDF (OpenAlex or Unpaywall).
  • Process report. Shows how much you wrote, who wrote each part (typed, pasted, edited from the guide or from the guide) and how it was done (days, messages and edits). It measures what happened in the editor: it does not certify that no AI was used.

Research

The AI research assistant searches an open index of research. Over 200 million scholarly works (OpenAlex). Ask it a question and it answers with citations, shows how far the studies agree and points to what has not been studied yet.

For questions that are not about finding sources, like making sense of a concept or asking about a PDF your lecturer shared, there is the AI chat for students. Accepts PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CSV, images, audio and YouTube videos.

Study

Study turns your material into ways of reviewing it, and it starts from almost anything you have. 8 tools: Quiz, Open questions, Flashcards, Concept map, Infographic, Presentation, Podcast and Video. Study from a PDF, Word file, audio, up to 10 photos of your notes, a web page, a YouTube video, your own text or just a topic.

Several of them have their own page, including the AI flashcard maker, the concept map maker and the open-ended question generator.

What none of these tools does

  • It can still get a citation wrong. In internal testing, citations not supported by their source fell from 22% to 16%: it does not promise zero errors. That is why Check against the source exists, and why it is worth opening what you cite.
  • It does not decide for you. In Guided writing the guide suggests and you choose what stays in the document.
  • It does not make up your experience. If an assignment asks for a reflection or your own opinion, that part has to come from you.

Free plan and Aithor Pro

The free plan is a trial: its quotas do not renew. In each tool, what you can do for free is capped or cut short. For example:

  • Guided writing. Free: 3-day trial with 40 messages a day and about 250 words written by the guide per paper, no download; anything beyond that is cut off.
  • Study. Free: 3 documents, for life; if a generation fails, you get it back.

One paid plan, Aithor Pro, with no lock-in: cancel anytime. The price depends on your country and is shown in your currency: see the pricing page.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a separate account for each tool?

No. Every tool lives in the same Aithor.io account at dashboard.aithor.io. You sign up once, with Google or with your email, and move between tools without logging in again.

Can I use the tools for free?

Yes, to try them out. The free plan is a trial whose quotas do not renew, and in each tool what you can do for free is capped or cut short. Full papers and downloads come with Aithor Pro, which you can cancel at any time.

Which tool should I start with for a dissertation?

Start with Guided writing. It reads your brief, suggests an outline and drafts each chapter with you. The literature review has a tool of its own, and when your viva or defense comes up, defense mode quizzes you on your own paper.

Which citation styles can I use?

The common ones, such as APA 7, MLA, Chicago, Harvard, IEEE and Vancouver, among many others. You pick the style your department asks for and Guided writing formats the citations and the reference list to match.

Do I have to install anything?

No. Aithor.io runs in your browser on a laptop or a phone, so there is nothing to download before you start.
